Description

Get a period glimpse of 19th Century ballplayers, with the examination of these (2) circa 1870s-1880s tin type photographs. Both of these durable relics measure 2-1/2" x 3-1/2", and both depict multiple baseball players. One shot is a fantastic scene of seven players wearing horizontally striped caps, collared shirts and a variety of necktie types. This photo has clipped corners at left, and overall wear is moderate, though there is a stripe of foreign color along the right edge, that does not affect the player images. The other shot is a two-player scene. The pictured players are wearing jerseys with the letters "WO" stacked vertically on the front. Both are wearing striped socks and caps with alternating light and dark panels, and the player on the right is holding a long, thick-handled bat with a thin knob. The corners on the left are clipped and wear on the right side corners is considerable. The image area remains fairly attractive, though there is a small spot of surface peel on the right cheek of the player seated at left.
