Prolific batsman Wade Boggs takes the bidding stage, with this 1986-1989 game-used bat. A Hall of Fame third baseman with a career .328 batting average, Boggs was in the employ of the Boston Red Sox during the defined labeling period. Over this four-year stretch, the “Chicken Man” won three AL batting crowns and led the league in on-base percentage all four seasons. This Louisville Slugger Genuine C235 Boggs signature model bat presents handsomely, with extensive signs of use. Seen around the cupped barrel are multiple contact marks, stitch impressions, and baseball labeling ink transfers. The uncracked handle bears a light coating of pine tar, and Boggs uniform number 26 is written on the knob. The accompanying LOA declares Boggs a regimented hitter, with a database record of consistently making contact with the area under the facsimile of his signature burned into the barrel. The LOA suggests that contact marks seen all around the barrel indicate this bat saw use during batting practice, without ruling out game use, and the opinion is that use was not exclusively during game action. The LOA provides a grade of GU 7.
Full LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA.
