A prized Redbird is ready to feather your nest, with this "Dizzy" Dean signed 1934 news service photograph. On a team full of colorful characters, Dean was arguably the most colorful member of the 1934 World Series champions "Gashouse Gang". In an interesting turnabout, the ace hurler is depicted with a bat rather than in a typical pitching pose, in this 6" x 8" round-corner photograph. A mound master to be sure, Dean proved fairly capable at the plate as well, recording a career .225 batting average. Dean (HOF, d.1974) has applied a neat and bold signature to this antique photo, oriented vertically over his pants. Showing Gd+ details, this nicely composed photograph has a blacked-out credit stamp on the reverse, believed to be an Associated Press credit due to the alignment of the stamp and the collection of photographs from whence it came.
Full LOA from James Spence/JSA.
