Description

A fantastic prize comes to market, with the presentation of this 1933 New York Yankees team-signed baseball. Tip your hat to the ’33 Washington Senators for finishing seven games in front of this super-talented second place squad. Counted among the (23) total signatures decorating this OAL/Harridge baseball, are all (9) of the team’s Hall of Famers, including peerless wonders “Babe” Ruth and Lou Gehrig. The subjects have all departed long ago, and most were members of the 1932 World Series champion Yankees team. While this period-correct baseball is considerably toned to a dark walnut shade, most of the black steel-tip fountain pen signatures stand out distinctly. In a favorable turn of fate, the “Babe” Ruth sweet spot signature is the most prominent.

Featured signers are:

Sweet spot: “Babe” Ruth (HOF, d.1948);

North panel: “Lefty” Gomez (HOF, d1989), Ed Farrel (d.1966), Joe Sewell (HOF, d.1990), Earle Combs (HOF, d.1976), Russ Van Atta (d.1986), Ben Chapman (d.1993), Frank Crosetti (d.2002), Lyn Lary (d.1973);

South panel: Bill Dickey (HOF, d.1993), Arndt Jorgens (d.1980), Walter Brown (d.1966), Danny MacFayden (d.1972), Johnny Allen (d.1959);

East panel: Chas. (“Red”) Ruffing (HOF, 1986), Johnny Broaca (1933 minor leaguer), Cy Moore (d.1963), Herb Pennock (HOF, 1948), Sam Byrd (d.1981);

West panel: “Dixie” Walker (d.1982), Tony Lazzeri (HOF, d.1946), Lou Gehrig (HOF, d.1941), Don Brennan (d.1953).
