Lot # 12: 1934 New York Yankees Team-Signed Baseball (24 Signatures) Including Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig (Triple Crown Season) - Full JSA LOA

Outstanding team-signed baseball featuring twenty-four members of the 1934 New York Yankees, highlighted by eight Hall of Famers, including Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Although the Yankees finished in second place in 1934, it marked a turning point in Gehrig's fabled career, as he finally emerged from Ruth's enormous shadow. For the first time ever Gehrig finally eclipsed Ruth in home runs, hitting a league-leading 49 to Ruth's 22. Gehrig also led the league in RBI (165) and batting average (.363), which earned him the coveted Triple Crown. The offered baseball is particularly special, and different from others we have offered, in that each of the signatures of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig is placed on alternating sweet spots, ideally positioning the two most important signers in areas of the baseball that allowed for large, bold signatures. In addition to Ruth and Gehrig, the ball features the signatures of Hall of Famers Red Ruffing, Lefty Gomez, Bill Dickey, Tony Lazzeri, Burleigh Grimes, and Joe Sewell (coach). Each of the signatures is executed in black ink, and the ball has been coated with a protective layer of shellac. There are no manufacturer's stampings visible. There is some minor discoloration throughout the ball, including a moderately-sized stain on one panel affecting only a single signature, but it does not detract from the overall presentable quality of this baseball.
