A magnificent treasure comes to market for the first time ever, with the presentation of this circa 1937 “Babe” Ruth single-signed baseball. An accompanying letter of provenance declares this baseball has remained in continuous possession of the same family, since the consignor’s grandfather originally obtained Ruth’s signature on it approximately ninety years ago. It was a tough decision to let it go, but it's going to make a new owner very happy indeed.
No factory brand labeling is visible on this vintage baseball, though the simple legend “League Ball” covers the reverse sweet spot. Specifications on an adjacent panel include “No. 250” for the model number. Ruth has neatly applied his greatly coveted signature on the preferred sweet spot location. After all these years, his black steel-tip fountain pen signature remains distinct and satisfying. The baseball radiates period authenticity, and display appeal is off the charts.
Seen below is a photograph of this baseball's original owner, with Ruth in his 1938 Brooklyn Dodgers uniform. Ruth took a coaching job with the Dodgers in hopes of becoming a manager, though the Dodgers had no intention of offering him the job, employing him only to boost ticket sales. This photograph is presented for context only and is not included in the sale of this prized Ruth autograph.
