Description

Celebrated creators Carmine Infantino and Alex Schomburg are credited for their first rate work on this 9/46 Timely Comics Captain America Comics issue #58. Schomburg always made such excellent use of the cover space allotted him, squeezing in as much detail as possible, and this one is a doozy. Cap and trusty sidekick Bucky are taking on a gang of seven masked bank robbers, and though heavily outnumbered by the bad guys, there's no doubt the red, white and blue super-hero and his partner will win the fight. Cap's got one foot over the roof's wall and the other is planted atop the protruding bank sign. He's blocking bullets from one gunman with his shield, while dodging the fire of another villain. One robber is already slumped over the retaining wall, and another is emerging from a freshly cut hole in the roof, with bags of loot in hand. A crowd has gathered on the sidewalk across the street, though traffic in the street continues to flow. The best features are a helicopter landed on the roof, partially loaded with bags of cash, Cap smashing trough one of the propellers with a blow from his left hand, and the crowning touch, Bucky is up a flagpole, using the attached rope to throw a noose around the neck of one the soon to be jailed robbers. Schomburg really was a creative guy, and Infantino was Infantino. CGC has awarded this nicely preserved comic a graded of 4.0, Cream to Off-White Pages. Label notes are "Carmine Infantino art, Alex Schomburg cover. Human Torch story.".
