DC had Superman and Batman, Fawcett had Captain Marvel and The Marvel Family, and Timely Comics countered with its "Big Three", Captain America, Sub-Mariner and Human Torch. The foremost of these Golden Age Timely heroes makes the scene, with this 2/43 Captain America Comics #23 issue. The bad guys get their due form the shield-wielding Captain America and his johnny-on-the-spot sidekick Bucky, in the action-packed front cover scene rendered by Syd Shores. Cap's Throwing a haymaker, and Bucky's making a leap from above, to tackle a Nazi gunman taking aim at his heroic partner. An inset at bottom left touts a backup story starring another Big Three hero, the Human Torch. Binder holes along the spine limit the grade provided by CGC to 3.0, Cream to Off-White Pages, for this otherwise attractive WWII era comic. This book was examined prior to grading submission, and the hole punches affect the border only, not the art panels. Label notes are "Otto Binder story, Al Avison art, Syd Shores cover. Human Torch backup story.".
