Calculating Oriental menace Shiwan Khan makes his first appearance in this 1939 Street & Smith The Shadow #182 (volume 31, #2) pulp magazine. The last living descendant of Mongol conqueror Genghis Khan, Shiwan was hell-bent on conquest of his own, and cloaked hero the Shadow was determined to stop the threat. The first real pulp fiction super-hero, the Shadow was also the longest running for the genre, appearing in well over three hundred issues. Greatly prized for its classic cover, this WWII era pulp is considered a key issue in the Shadow's lengthy run, and cover boy Shiwan Khan is regarded as his greatest enemy.
CGC has graded this nicely preserved pulp 3.5, Cream to Off-White Pages. A review of CGC's Population Report reveals the leading certification service has encapsulated just four examples of this exciting key issue in Universal Grade holders. Label notes are "Cover by Graves Gladney, Walter B. Gibson story. The Golden Master classic cover. 1st Appearance Shiwan Kahn.".
