Description

1919 House of David baseball team real photo postcard (GD), with "House-Of-David" written across the top of the obverse. The reverse side is printed with "Eden Springs, Israelite House of David, Benton Harbor, Mich. U.S.A.", and addressed to "House of David Base Ball Team, Benton Harbor, Mic.", but not stamped. The composition of the obverse photograph is unusual, with presumably the manager/captain seated in front of the standing squad of players, who have their arms folded, as they are arrayed side to side in a slight arc. On the foreground, is a fascinating pile of period equipment, stacked in campfire fashion.

1923 "The House of David Blues" Sheet Music (VG+), published by Jack Mills Inc., and composed by Elmer Schoebel, Billy Meyers, and Irving Mills. The front cover features a jazzy quintet of musicians with wildly long hair and beards, in keeping with the HOD tradition.

1930s-1950s Rose Bowl Programs (6): 1954 Michigan State vs U.C.L.A (EX), 1955 Ohio State vs U.S.C. (EX-MT), 1956 Michigan State vs U.C.L.A. (EX). Also “Tournament of Roses” Programs: 1931 (EX), 1950 (2, both GD).

1939 Chicago Cubs Picture Pack in Scrapbook (20): 7x9 photos from a 1939 Chicago Cubs Picture Pack have been neatly pasted into an ornate photograph album from the 40s or 50s. The album is in Excellent condition while the photos would be EX-MT or better if they hadn't been pasted in the album. Cubs players include Leo “Gabby” Hartnett (mgr.), Dizzy Dean, Roy Johnson, Phil Cavarretta, Stan Hack, Claude Passeau, Jim Gleason, Billy Herman, Clay Bryant, Charlie Root, Jack Russell, Bobby Mattick, Gus Mancuso, Dick Bartell, Bill Lee and five others.

1947 Cincinnati Reds Team-Signed Government Postcard with (22) Signatures on the back of this 5/16/47 postmark dated government postcard. Signature strength averages ("7" to "8") with:

Notables: Johnny Neun (manager), Johnny Vander Meer, Clyde Shoun (d.1968), Harry Gimbert, Ewell Blackwell, Phil Page (coach, d.1958).

Balance: Augie Galan, "Bud" Lively, Grady Hatton, Kermit Wahl, Ben Zientara, Charlie Kress, Eddie Lukon, Bobby Adams, Frank Baumholtz, Kent Peterson, Clyde Vollmer, John Hetki, Virgil Stallcup, Clay Lambert, Ray Lamanno, Tom Tatum. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA.

1960 Casey Stengel shakes hands with American League president, Joe Cronin, in clubhouse (EX) Type I Photo. The large black and white New York Yankees Type I photographs are desirable for a few important reasons. The size and clarity of each photo taken during 1960 season are rarely seen in this oversized format. From a three-game Yankees/Boston regular season series at Fenway Park from 9/23 to 9/25. Notable LIFE magazine photographer, Ted Polumbaum, captures the Yankee skipper and the Red Sox legend after the game. The official bold stamping on the reverse includes photographer name, date of game and the Yankees opponent. PSA/DNA Type I Photo Letter of Authenticity accompanies.
