Lawrence Peter “Yogi” Berra became manager of the New York Yankees in 1964, after a Hall of Fame career playing for them. The Yankees won the AL Pennant that year but lost the World Series to St. Louis, and Yogi was fired. But to quote the skipper, “It ain't over till it's over.” The cross-town Mets quickly hired him as a player/coach, where he soon retired and became a full-time coach.
This pair of 1968 New York Mets gray flannel pants, size 36 by Wilson, has manufacturers tag with the washing instructions and “1968 SET 2” tag. Just beyond these tags is a four-inch gray flannel swatch embroidered “8-68-2-24 ins” indicating wearer’s number, in this case coach Yogi Berra, year of issue, set number and inseam measurement. There is some minor staining in the waistband and some writing, but the pants are in generally good condition with even wear throughout. The pants come with a detailed Letter of Authenticity from Phil Wood for their use.
Yogi Berra has signed the front of the pants with blue fiber tip marker (“7-8”) and the pants also come with a Full Letter of Authenticity from James Spence/JSA for the signature.
