Description

One of baseball's greatest hitters steps up to the bidding plate, with this Stan Musial signed 1961-1963 St. Louis Cardinals game-used bat. While many superstars tail off after their 30th birthday, the supremely consistent Musial was still hitting at a high level as he entered his 40s. Musial led the National League in batting 7 times, and he was named an All-Star in 20 of his 22 seasons with the Redbirds. The three-time National League MVP finished in the top 1- of MVP voting 14 times, and he was a three-time World Series champion.

Dating from his final three seasons, this 1961-1963 Louisville Slugger M159 Genuine Musial Model bat is a fantastic prize for advanced collectors. Signs of authentic use are abundant. Many baseball contact marks are seen around the barrel, including ink transfers. Also noted on the barrel are bat rack streaks, cleat impressions, and minor grain swelling. There's a crack on the upper handle, which has been reinforced with tape, and Musial's jersey number 6 is written on the knob, over an impression of the model number. Musial has located his now somewhat faded signature on the barrel at an ideal spot for display purpose. This historically significant collection centerpiece, used by one of the game's true greats, has been graded (GU 8.5) by PSA/DNA.

Full LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA for game use. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA for the signature. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
