Fierce Hall of Fame hurler Bob Gibson was always ready for the big game. The St. Louis Cardinals ace was named World Series MVP in both 1964 and 1967 in winning efforts, and though the Cardinals lost to the Tigers in the 1968 Fall Classic, Gibson was spectacular once again. In addition to earning the MVP award in 1967, Gibson was also presented with the offered silver-plated serving tray, by the Chrysler Corporation. This 13" diameter plate remains attractive, with moderate wear and sporadic toning supporting its period authenticity. Engraving at center reads "1967 World Series, Boston Red Sox vs. St. Louis Cardinals, Chrysler Corporation, Bob Gibson". As an NBC sponsor, Chrysler was known for awarding pewter plates to World Series winners. It is reported that this engraved silver-plated plate was presented to Gibson as an upgrade from the pewter awards, in recognition of his dominant MVP performance. During his 3 trips to the World Series, Gibson made 9 starts, and went the distance in 8 of them, compiling a 7-2 record, with a 1.89 ERA, and 92 strikeouts in 81 innings.
