America was robbed of an effective president, when William McKinley was assassinated in 1901, shortly into his second term. Add our 25th President to your collection, when you capture this 1897-1898 document cut dual-signed by McKinley, and Secretary of State John Sherman (d.1900). Sherman served in McKinley's cabinet from 3/6/1897-4/27/1898, dating the signatures to this 14-month window, during McKinley's first term. Sized at 8-1/2" x 3-1/8", this large cut is printed with "By the President", and "Secretary of State", indicating it was clipped from what was very likely an official document. A curved tear repaired with tape on the back, passes between the signatures of McKinley and Sherman, without affecting either one. Both signatures are attractive, and the cut is otherwise sturdy.
