Claim an antique Hall of Famer award, with this 1916 Medallic Arts Co. Morgan Bulkeley Tribute medal. Struck in bronze, this stately medal has a diameter of 1-3/4", and reports in XF condition. Bulkeley owns a distinguished resume, as a Civil War soldier, the first president of the National League of Professional Baseball Clubs, the mayor of Hartford, governor of Connecticut, U.S. Senator from Connecticut, and president of the Aetna Insurance Company. For his service as the first NL president, Bulkeley was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1937. Here he is seen in a relief profile image, on the obverse of the offered medal, with his full name "Morgan Gardner Bulkeley" lettered above. Sculptor/medalist John Flanagan designed this piece, and his initials are located on the obverse field, at left. The reverse is ringed with a laurel wreath, and the legend "Bulkeley Tribute" is lettered above. The name "William C. Atwater & Sons" is engraved inside the wreath, and "Medallic Art Co. NY" is impressed into the rim on the south side. A fairly scarce medal type, this one has crossover appeal for baseball and political collectors, and numismatists as well.
