Description

Make a great collecting catch, when you bag this 1997 Kent Collectibles Willie Mays hands sculpture. Numbered "195/200" on the engraved title plate located on the front of the base, this realistic piece replicates the position of Mays' hands when he made the famous play known as "The Catch" during the 1954 World Series. In the top of the 8th inning of Game 1, Mays tracked downed a deep blast off the bat Cleveland Indians slugger Vic Wertz that traveled in excess of 450 feet, for one of the most memorable plays in baseball history. Reaching a height of 13-1/2" inches at its apex, this fine art creation sits on an 11-1/2" x 8-1/2" x 2" cultured marble base. Wear on the hand painted, life-like sculpture is minimal and the presentation is mesmerizing. Accompanying is a replica of the glove Mays wore to make the catch, also in like-new condition, with a secretarial signature on the last finger. Also present are the original notarized COA and several Kent Collectibles brochures.
