Description

"The Cincinnati Cobra" strikes twice, with this pair of PSA graded collectibles. Heavyweight boxing champion Ezzard Charles (d.1975) enjoyed a lengthy career in the ring, that spanned two full decades. Charles claimed the heavyweight crown on June 22, 1949, when he beat "Jersey Joe" Walcott in their first of four championship bouts. Less than two months later, he defended his crown for the first time, by taking on highly regarded prizefighter Gus Lesnevich, who lasted only seven rounds, in a scheduled fifteen-rounder at Yankee Stadium on August 10, 1949. Here we have an attractive full ticket from the Lesnevich fight, which is graded GD 2 by PSA. Paired with this vintage ticket, is a Charles signed 1965 Physical Fitness first day cover, which is encapsulated by PSA/DNA with an Authentic Autograph designation. Located above the Feb 15, 1965 postmark, Charles' signature is a sharp example.
