Description

Secure your piece of one the NFL's most famous games, when you bring home this Super Bowl III ticket stub. This classic contest took place at the Orange Bowl in Miami, on January 12, 1969. The combatants were the heavily favored Baltimore Colts and the surprising underdog New York Jets. Leading up to the big game, Jets quarterback Joe Namath famously guaranteed a win at one of the week's festivities. Namath delivered on his guarantee with deft handling of the Jets offense, earning the game's MVP award, while the defense also turned in an astonishing performance, in a 16-7 win over the Colts.

Three varieties of tickets were sold for this historic game, one with a $6 price and a white section at top, one with an $8 price and a blue section at top, and one a $12 price and a yellow section at top. The ticket stub offered here is a $6, white section type, graded a respectable VG-EX 4 by PSA. Label notes are "1969 Super Bowl III, N.Y. Jets-16, Baltimore-7, MVP-Joe Namath, White Var.".

Besides providing New York fans with a huge thrill at the start of the same calendar year that saw the "Amazin' Mets" upset the Baltimore Orioles in the 1969 World Series, this game went a long way in legitimizing the AFL, which was set to merge with the NFL in 1970.
