Lot # 1451: 1940s-1950s Carnival Cane Pair with Very Tough Jackie Robinson & Baseball Toppers

Win big with the capture of this 1940s-1950s carnival cane pair. These delightful midway skill game prizes are very tough examples, topped by Jackie Robinson and a baseball. From top to bottom, the Robinson cane measures 36”. The pedestal section is decorated with crossed bats and a baseball, with the name “Jackie” in raised letters on the upper bat. While the lettering on the bat is difficult to see, the name is clearly repeated on the back of the pedestal in stronger raised letters. Topped with a Brooklyn Dodgers cap, the Robinson milk glass bust topper is mounted on a stick with a tapered end, that’s painted Dodger blue. There’s a chip on the cap’s bill and considerable paint wear is noted, mostly on the cap. Despite these conditions, this Robinson piece remains very appealing, with a great look of period authenticity. Marked “Japan” in red lettering on the underside of the pedestal, the porcelain baseball topper sits on a green dowel type stick. The overall length is 34-1/2”. and moderate, age-appropriate wear is evident. While the vintage toppers seen here surface from time to time, finding them complete with their wood cane sticks is a tall order.
