History beckons with the offering of this Forbes Field stadium seat double. Beloved by hometown Pittsburgh fans, this hallowed venue hosted the MLB’s Pirates, the NFL Steelers, the wartime Steagles and Card-Pitt combined city squads, the Negro League Homestead Grays, the NCAA Panthers and other teams.

Opened in 1909, Forbes Field’s first season of play ended with a big bang, as the Pirates outlasted the Detroit Tigers in the 1909 World Series, which featured Hall of Fame legends Honus Wagner and Ty Cobb, and Babe Ruth belted the last three home runs of his glorious career at Forbes, on May 25, 1935. Dubbed “The House of Thrills” by sportscaster Bob Prince, the stadium lived up to the moniker in 1960, when Pirates second baseman Bill Mazeroski hit a dramatic walk-off home against the heavily favored New York Yankees in Game 7 of the 1960 World Series, to clinch a championship for the Pirates. Another big draw to fill the offered seat pair, was the great Roberto Clemente, who manned rightfield for the Bucs from 1955, through the closing of Forbes Field in 1970.

Measuring 40” wide by 33” high, this seat tandem is fitted with a sturdy wood base to enable freestanding display. Abundant signs of authentic use/wear are noted, though the seats remain rock steady. The top back slats are stenciled in red with seat numbers 13 and 14. A brass plate affixed to middle back slat of seat 13 reads “Genuine Box Seat form Forbes Field Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Home of the Pittsburgh Pirates 1909-1970, Negro National League (Grays) 1939-1948”.
