Numismatists make a quality score with the acquisition of this 2009 Ultra High Relief $20 Gold Double Eagle coin. This exquisite coin replicates the design of the $20 Double Eagle gold pattern coin designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907. This coin differs from a standard $20 Double Eagle, as it has the diameter of a $10 Eagle. It is smaller but also much thicker. Struck at the West Point Mint in a quantity of 114,427 pieces, this lustrous gem has a COA stated weight of 1.001 Troy Ounce, and a .9999 Fine Gold composition. PCGS has recognized some examples of this coin as being proof-like, and judging from its radiant surface, the offered coin may very well qualify for the proof-like designation.
