Description

Commemorate an important milestone for one of baseball's most beloved figures, when you bring home this multi-signed 1972 Roberto Clemente 3,000th Hit celebration baseball. Made by DeBeers, this vintage orb hosts a total of (5) signatures, including Hall of Famer Clemente and four other Puerto Rican sports figures. These signatures were reportedly gathered at a celebratory event.

Clemente collected career hit number 3,000 on September 30, 1972, on his home field turf at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh. Tragically, this hit came during Clemente's final regular season at-bat. Three months later, Clemente perished when his plane when down in the Atlantic Ocean, shortly after taking off on a relief flight to aid victims of an earthquake in Nicaragua, on New Year's Eve 1972.

Clemente has signed in his distinctive style on the west panel of the offered baseball. Joining Clemente in the signing of this ball are Hall of Fame boxer Sixto Escobar, who was Puerto Rico's first world champion, Caguas baseball team owner Pepe Seda, who also served as a scout for the Dodgers of Brooklyn, multi-sport athlete Eugenio Guerra, who went on to a lengthy career as a sportswriter, and Terry Garcia, who is believed to have been an athlete and writer.

The accompanying full LOA from PSA/DNA cites the following grades: Overall 5.5, Autographs 7, Baseball 4.
