It was boom times for the Pittsburgh Pirates when they signed this c.1971 Al Oliver pro model bat. During the 1970s, the Bucs won six NL East Division titles, and they bookended the decade with World Series championships in 1971 and 1979. Core players from the 1971 team are present and accounted for, on this team-signed Louisville Slugger 125 Al Oliver signature model bat.
Time has seen the (18+) period signatures on this bat fade somewhat, but as fortune would have it, the Roberto Clemente signature remains one of the most prominent. Pitchers Bruce Kison and Nellie Briles, who have also participated in the signing of this bat, joined the Pirates in 1971, and Clemente tragically lost his life in a plane crash on the last day of 1972, defining the window of opportunity for signing this handsome bat to 1971-1972.
Notables signatures are: Roberto Clemente (HOF), Al Oliver, Jose Pagan, "Dock" Ellis, Steve Blass, Bill Mazeroski (HOF), Gene Alley, Milt May, Rich Hebner, Willie Stargell (HOF), Nellie Briles, Vic Davalillo, Bruce Kison, and Dave Cash.
