The 1962 National League race between the Los Angeles Dodgers and their rival, the San Francisco Giants, captured national attention, bringing LIFE Magazine photographers to document the action. These (3) rare, approximately 13 ½ x 9 ½, Type 1 photos are each dated on the back 7/26/1962, so they are likely from his Don Drysdale’s start the previous day, 7/25/1962, against the Cardinals. This was a Drysdale victory, to go 18-4 on the season. The hard-throwing Hall of Famer went on to win the Cy Young award that year, but the Dodgers narrowly lost the pennant to the Giants. These original photographs of “Big D” have LIFE magazine stamping and markings on the back and average Excellent condition with most of the wear around the edges.
