Description

Take a deep dive into National League history, with this 1896 Washington Senators Ladies' Day Reception pass. This obscure team began play in 1891, as a member of the American Association. When that league folded at the end of the season, the short-lived Senators joined the National League in 1892 and remained with the Senior Circuit through the 1899 season, when the franchise was contracted out of the NL. This leaves just a nine-year window for souvenirs related to this original Senators team.

PSA has encapsulated this scarce pass with a grade of GD 2, as the only known example graded by leading the certification service. This nicely preserved National Ball Park pass is stamped dated 1896 in bold red numerals, and team president J. Earl Wagner (d.1943) has signed on the bottom line. At the time, the Senators stadium was known as Boundary Field. The hapless squad turned in a disappointing record of 58-73 for the 1896 season, despite having four .300 hitters in the lineup.
