Description

One of the “Boys of Summer” was honored, with the presentation of this Gil Hodges Night sterling silver tray. The date was July 19, 1957, and the venue was Ebbets Field, during a scheduled doubleheader. It was the final year of play for the Dodgers in Brooklyn, and the fortunate fans in attendance enjoyed a memorable experience in honor of their deserving star first baseman. Sized with a 14-1/2” diameter, this lustrous silver tray is bright and attractive, with minimal signs of wear. The surface is engraved with the names of Hodges’ teammates, including fellow Hall of Famers Walt Alston, Roy Campanella, “Pee Wee” Reese, Don Drysdale, and Sandy Koufax. Joining this astonishing treasure in this magnificent display, is a photograph from the ceremony picturing Reese presenting Hodges a “Players Popularity Award” plaque, featuring portraits of all Dodgers team members. Positioned to Hodges left, is Carl Erskine, who is holding the priceless silver tray. Reporting in handsome, ready for immediate display state, this sturdy metal display has overall dimensions of 19-1/2” x 32-1/2” x 2-1/2”.
