Lot # 991: August 16, 1954 Sports Illustrated Inaugural Issue with Rare Index Insert

August 15th, 1954, the first issue of Sports Illustrated appeared on the newsstands. Since then, it has become one of the most iconic magazines of all time. This copy has a cover with some wear, but the inside pages retain some whiteness. The 1954 Topps fold-out replica pages are nicely white and intact. The highlight is the Sports Illustrated Index that was inserted in the magazine with a letter from Sports Illustrated as well as subscription order form. The index details the contributors, photos and stories in the first issue. The index cover is VG with the inside much nicer. Overall, the magazine’s condition grades VG+.
