Recall one of the most exciting and memorable plays in baseball history, as you view this 1954 World Series Game 1 ticket stub. Along with 52,750 others in attendance at the Polo Grounds on September 29, 1954, the fortunate fan holding this ancient gameday souvenir got to witness "The Catch" by legend Willie Mays. The home team New York Giants were hosting the Cleveland Indians for this Fall Classic thriller. The Indians had set an AL record with a 111-win season, but the Giants served notice of their dominance with a 5-2 win in Game 1, setting the table for their four-game sweep. The game was knotted at 2-2 in the 8th. Cleveland had two men on when Vic Wertz hit a deep drive to the Polo Grounds cavernous centerfield, where Mays made an iconic over-the-shoulder catch to preserve the tie. In the bottom of the tenth, pinch-hitter supreme "Dusty" Rhodes hit a three-run walk-off homer for the Giants. This big game ticket stub is encapsulated by PSA with a grade of FR 1.5, with "Willie Mays Makes "The Catch"" noted on the label.
