Description

A true all-time great is celebrated, with this Roy Campanella Night program and ticket stub pairing. These gameday souvenirs were issued at the Los Angeles Coliseum on May 7, 1959. This event took place about a year-and-a-half after Campanella was paralyzed in an automobile accident, putting an end to his remarkable career with the Brooklyn Dodgers. A 3x NL MVP, Campanella earned a World Series ring in 1955, as one of "The Boys of Summer", and the doors to the Hall of Fame were opened to him in 1969. As part of the Campanella Night festivities, the Los Angeles Dodgers took on the New York Yankees in an exhibition game.

Campanella is depicted on the front cover of the offered program, in an illustration by artist Nicholas Volpe. The scoring grids at center are neatly recorded with the game's results. Listed in the lineup for the Dodgers are stars Sandy Koufax, "Duke" Snider, John Roseboro, Don Zimmer, and others. While this program has a 4" spine split extending up from the bottom, it is otherwise appealing in showing Vg details. The accompanying ticket stub is clean and glossy, rating as Vg-Ex. Printed on the front of this stub are a photograph of Campanella, and the legend "I was there the night they honored CAMPY".
