Fascinating and extremely rare certificate of recognition presented to a member of Cuba's national sports team for his participation in the “Olimpiada Nacional del Deporte Cubano,” Cuba’s national athletic games. Presented to Daylon Diaz Acosta, the certificate is particularly notable for its bold black Sharpie signature of Cuban leader Fidel Castro at the base. Measuring 8.25 x 11.25 inches and printed on heavy stock, the colorful certificate features a collage of Cuban sport images in the background and represents the country’s deep cultural and political intertwining of athletics and patriotism under Castro’s leadership. The piece presents very well overall, grading Very Good overall, with only light wear confined to the corners and edges from gentle handling over time. The autograph remains dark and strong. Items personally signed by Fidel Castro, especially those linked to Cuba’s organized sports institutions, are scarce and highly collectible. Also accompanying the certificate is a 1950s-era news service photograph of a close-up Castro measuring approximately 7.5 x 9.25 inches. The photograph displays a number of wrinkles and surface imperfections as well as standard editorial markings on the reverse. Full LOA from PSA/DNA for the Castro signature. Total: 2 items (certificate and photograph).
