Description

Go strong to the bidding hoop, to claim this 1923-1924 Valparaiso University Western Interstate Conference basketball championship trophy. Known at the time as the Valparaiso Crusaders, this squad posted the best record in the nation, with a tally of 24-4. Led by captain Millard “Andy” Anderson and Earl Scott, the starting five played nearly every minute of their championship season, earning the nickname the “Victory Five”.

This antique silver-plated basketball trophy stands 16-1/2” tall, on a wood base with an 8” diameter. Affixed to the back of the base, is a logo plate for famous maker Dieges & Clust. The ball features raised laces on the front, above a Spalding logo, which is impressed into the ball’s surface. Located on the front of the base, is an engraved title plate that reads “Western Interstate Conference Won By Valparaiso University 1923-24”. The entire surface is considerably toned, and there’s a 2” diameter dent on the back of the ball. These conditions serve to reinforce the tremendous period authentic appeal of this century-old trophy.
