Description

Blow out the candles, cut the cake, and celebrate a nice win, when you score this 1962 New York Mets coach/scout multi-signed birthday card. It wasn't the fault of the wizened brain trust, that the Mets finished their inaugural season dead last, with a record of 40-120. Several of the fine baseball minds that offered guidance to the woeful '62 Mets have expressed their well wishes, applying solid signatures to this vintage greeting card. The signers are hitting coach Rogers Hornsby (HOF, d.1963), first base coach "Cookie" Lavagetto (d.1990), and scout Ray Kennedy (d.1969), who had just a single MLB at-bat, way back in 1916. Hornsby is far and away the most important of the three subjects, and his name appears at the top of the list, presenting favorably.

Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA.
