This letter from elite hitter Rogers Hornsby was written a year before his death, which was signed and dated on January 10, 1962. Sized at 8-1/2" x 5-1/2," this vintage piece of correspondence shows firm writing throughout, concluding with Hornsby's bold signature. Dabs of adhesive from the affixed album paper backer show through to the front, with minimal impact on the writing, and Hornsby's prized autograph is in the clear. Written as "The Rajah" was about to start his final baseball job as a scout and batting coach for the first-year New York Mets, this letter relates Hornsby's travel plans to "Dear Max," including his flight times, and his destination, the Roosevelt Hotel.
In addition to coming with an auction LOA from James Spence/JSA, this letter is accompanied by a PSA/DNA label from prior encapsulation, bearing an autograph grade of MINT 9.
