Description

Tris Speaker spent the last part of his Hall of Fame career as the player/manager for the Cleveland Indians. This Excellent to Near Mint photo postcard of Speaker in his Indians uniform dates the image from the early 1919-1926. The signature on the postcard is a strong (“9-10”) beauty.

The postcard is accompanied by three pages cut from a magazine with the story of Tris Speaker’s 1912 World Series battle against the New York Giants when he played for Boston, as told to the author by Speaker himself. The article details the World Series, including Tris’ single off of Christy Mathewson that helped Boston win the series. He ranks this as his greatest moment as a player, comparable to his greatest moment as a manager when he managed the 1920 Cleveland Indians to the championship. The three-page article also has a picture of Speaker as well as Christy Matthewson, John McGraw and Rube Marquard, as well as the box score from the game. Excellent with staple.

Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA.
