Description

The colorful squad famously known as the "Gashouse Gang" drops in, with this 1930 St. Louis Cardinals team-signed baseball. It would have been surprising if this team hadn't won the National League pennant. Of the 13 position players with 100+ at-bats, 12 hit over .300, and 5 of their starting pitchers racked up double-digit win totals. This ONL/Heydler baseball with readily discernible factory labeling, is a fine collectible in its own right. The addition of (25) period signed autographs by the NL champs, lights up the value radar in a big way. Though the signatures range ("2" to "4"), most are recognizable, including (5) Hall of Famers, and plenty of stars.

Highlights are Hall of Famers: Frankie Frisch (d.1973), Jessie Haines (d.1978), Burleigh Grimes (d.1985), "Chick" Hafey (d.1973), Jim Bottomley (d.1959).

Balance are: "Gabby" Street (d.1951, manager), George Puccinelli (d.1956), Ernie Orsatti (d.1968), Charlie Gelbert (d.1967), Ray Blades (d.1979, player-coach), George Fisher (d.1994), "Hi" Bell (d.1949), Earl Adams (d.1989), Bill Hallahan (d.1981), Gus Mancuso (d.1984), Flint Rhem (d.1969), Clyde (Buzzy) Wares (d.1964, coach), Andy High (d.1981), Taylor Douthit (d.1986), and (5) undetermined.

Also noted is the name "Dizzy" Dean, hand-printed in all capital letters on the west panel. Due to a lack of comparable printed examples, this signature in not authenticated. Dean was a late season call-up in 1930, and got a complete game win in his MLB debut on 9/20/30.
