Description

Spin the winning web to snare this 3/63 Marvel Amazing Spider-Man #1 issue. After decade-long runs under the Timely and Atlas banners in the 1940s and 1950s, Marvel Comics emerged in the early 1960s. Along with this rebranding came a Merry Marching Society of new superheroes that led to Marvel's rise to the top of the comic publishing business. Fans couldn't get enough of these Silver Age icons, who suffered realistic problems and issues readers related to in a big way. Starting with the Fantastic Four, Marvel rolled out the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Ant-Man, Wasp, the thawed-out Captain America, and others, who kept fans eagerly patrolling newsstands for the latest adventures.

The biggest star to arise during this exciting period was Spider-Man, who made his 1962 debut in the pages of Amazing Fantasy #15 (also offered in this current auction). Reader reaction to this teenage hero enhanced with the powers of a spider blew up Marvel's mailbox, and he quickly got his own title with this Amazing Spider-Man #1 issue. CGC has provided a very respectable grade of 5.0, Off-White to White-Pages, for this important key issue, which ranks highly among the most sought-after Silver Age comics. Label notes are "Stan Lee story, Steve Ditko art, Jack Kirby & Steve Ditko cover. 2nd app. of Spider-Man. 1st app J. Jonah Jameson & Chameleon. 1st Fantastic Four crossover. Origin of Spider-Man retold."
