Description

In a post-career broadcast of a St. Louis Browns game, Hall of Fame hurler Dizzy Dean announced that Al Zarilla had “slud” into third base. While he butchered the English language in much the same manner that he had butchered opposing batters, Dean was a boastful performer and a natural spokesperson. Taking full advantage of Dean’s popularity, C.W. Post issued this 1930s point-of-sale advertising display. Measuring nearly 22-1/4 x 26-1/4" at its widest/lengthiest points, this sturdy cardboard display with a functioning easel back features an action likeness of Dean in what appears to be St. Louis Cardinals apparel. Just above his follow-through, a bright red marquee reads: “Boys! Girls! Get My Valuable Prizes Free!” and is accented by Dean’s facsimile signature. Spanning through Dizzy's left knee is a blue banner with yellow advertising text that reads "For Energy...Eat Grape=Nuts!" followed by a blank cent price tag. To the right of the legend's glove is a raised 4-1/2 x 5" "Take One" pamphlet compartment placed beneath a "Details Here" header. An original pamphlet accompanies (presents EX-MT). This scarce die-cut survivor has sustained only minor perimeter/interior creases and edge wear inherent to retail display. Colors remain as vibrant as Dean’s outspoken demeanor! The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
