Lot # 1333: Circa 1900s Doxa German Silver Pocket Watch with Custom Painted Baseball Scene & Baseball Figural Stand

Time for a blast from the past, with the presentation of this 1905 Doxa German Silver pocket watch. This antique timekeeper has been customized with a hand painted baseball scene on the face, with a raised moving ball at the feet of the pitcher. Swiss maker Doxa is highly regarded for its quality productions, and this early 1900s model proudly reports a first place finish, with engraving on the back, inside the outer panel, which reads “Medaille D’Or Milan 1906” indicating a gold medal at the 1906 Milan World’s Fair, followed by the five-ring Doxa logo, and “Hors Concours Liege 1905” for a presentation at the World’s Fair in Liege, Belgium. Engraved inside the back panel is the Doxa Argent Deposed logo, the serial number 448269, and G, 3 on the field above the logo. The serial number is repeated inside the back opposite the inner workings, where the name Doxa is repeated at the six o’clock position. Overall, this watch is very handsome, with light to moderate wear, and it has been tested to run, typically a few minutes after winding.  Accompanying is a silver-plated stand with a 3-1/2” baseball figure on one side and a bat and ball on the other side. A hanging hook for the watch is positioned at top-center. Though heavily tarnished, this stand remains very appealing.
