Though he did not pitch that day, Brad Penny wore this Detroit Tigers jersey in Game 1 of the 2001 ALCS, which was contested at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, on October 8, 2011. While the patches on this lightly worn jersey are captivating, the most interesting detail is a black home plate patch on the right sleeve, embroidered in white with "Sparky 11", in honor of Hall of Fame manager Sparky Anderson, who passed away in November of 2010. Anderson was the Tigers skipper when they won the World Series in 1984, and he left a lasting impression on the franchise and its devoted fans. Not to be overlooked, Penny was a reliable starter throughout his 14-year MLB career, racking up an impressive record of 121-101. Seen on the front are Detroit lettering and number 31 patches. A Majestic MLB Authentic Collection factory label is located at the customary position on the bottom-left of the front tail. JSG initials written on this label are possibly clubhouse manager notations. Overlapping the bottom of the factory label, is an identifier tag stitched with "31 50 '11 610". The back patches are from top to bottom, an MLB logo, the name Penny and the number 31, and there's also a Majestic logo on the left sleeve. Despite some light staining on the back below the number patches, this handsome jersey is very appealing.
