Lot # 1745: 1930s-1940s Kicker & Catcher Football Coin Operated Counter Top Game

Amusement and display appeal are assured, with the capture of this 1930s Kicker and Catcher penny arcade machine. This antique delight would look great on a countertop or a pole stand, because it looks great to begin with. Evidence of prior pole stand mounting is seen on the underside, where four mounting holes are encircled in a shaded area derived from a mounting plate. Standing 17-1/2" tall, with a 14" x 8" footprint, this visual delight is painted blue with grooved red accents stripes. The kicker is painted on the glass window, with a red and white striped shirt and a blue helmet and pants. His catcher counterpart is a movable metal figure with a fantastic "leatherhead" helmet,. A prompt at top left urges you to "Try Your Skill" at the cost of 1¢, which entitles you to five kicks. Your score is recorded by a counter located directly in front of the kicker's head. A coin injector slide on the front of the wood cabinet centers two operating knobs. Repeat testing by an easily amused staff member, revealed all elements function smoothly as intended. A key is included, and removal of the back panel reveals the coin reservoir tray is absent, leaving the coins to fall on the bottom panel. The graphics are vibrant, and paint wear is relatively modest, given the advanced age of the marvelous piece, which is ready to go for immediate display and use.
