Lot # 1340: 1927 New York Giants Sepia Tone Photographs (26) with (10) Hall of Famers Including Hornsby, McGraw, Terry & Early Ott

A very talented team comes into focus, with the presentation of this 1927 New York Giants sepia tone photograph collection (26). Boasting nine Hall of Famers in manager John McGraw, coach Roger Bresnahan and seven legendary players, the 1927 Giants turned in a record of 92-62, to finish two games back of the Pittsburgh Pirates. McGraw got monster seasons from Rogers Hornsby, Travis Jackson, Bill Terry, Edd Roush, George Harper, Freddie Lindstrom, Burleigh Grimes and Freddie Fitzsimmons, who are all represented in this offering. Also in the mix, is an early Mel Ott example. Ott made 61 plate appearances in 35 games for the Giants during his MLB debut in 1926. He still qualified as a rookie in 1927, when his playing time was bumped up to 82 games and 180 plate appearances.

Just a year away from reaching full antique status, these identically sized 2-3/4" x 4-3/4" photographs show pleasing Vg-Ex to Nm details, with deference to small spots of album paper/adhesive residue on the reverse side. Twenty-five are single subject shots, and the remaining photograph is a dual player shot. Each photograph has the name of the subject written on the obverse for identification. Hall of Famers are pictured in ten of these attractive photographs.
