Baseball great Jackie Robinson was honored in many ways on the 50th Anniversary of his crossing of the MLB color line, and one of the best celebrations was this 1997 U.S. Mint Legacy Set. The best tribute was the retirement of Robinson's uniform number 42 by all MLB teams in 1997. As for take home souvenirs, this Mint set is a very satisfying prize. The headliner of this celebratory set is a 1997-W $5 gold proof coin with a portrait of Robinson on the obverse, and the legend "1919-1972 Legacy of Courage" on the reverse. As stated on the accompanying COA, this pristine coin has a weight of 8.359 grams, and a 90% gold composition equal to .24 troy ounce. Housed in a deluxe presentation case, this stunning coin is joined by a Topps card replicating Robinson's 1952 baseball card, with a Treasury United States Mint logo printed at top left, and a Jackie Robinson 50th Anniversary pin with facsimile signature. Also present is patch with the same design as the pin. All items present is like-new state.
