Look back to the 2002 Winter Olympics, with the examination of this U.S. Mint commemorative proof coin set. Salt Lake City was chosen to host the 2002 Winter Games, where the U.S. finished second in the medal count with 34. This lustrous coin set features a $5 gold coin with a weight of 8.359 grams, a composition of 90% gold, 10% alloy and an actual gold content of 0.24 troy ounce; and a $1 silver coin with a weight of 26.730 grams, a composition of 90% silver and an actual silver content of 0.77 troy ounce. Both coins are adorned on the obverse with the 2002 Winter Olympics Crystal emblem. The gold coin features the Olympic Flame on the reverse, and the silver coin features the Salt Lake City skyline against the Rocky Mountains on the reverse.
