A nostalgic tribute to “The Boys of Summer” arrives, with the presentation of this 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers display. Housed within this massive 32” x 38” framed display, are signature examples for every single one of the 1955 Dodgers thirty-two players, including a pre-accident Campanella signature, along with all three coaches, manager Walt Alston, and even sportscaster Vin Scully. Also noted, are two duplicate player signatures, bringing the total number of autographs to (39).
Interspersed with the signed index cards and cuts, are a 1955 Dodgers team photograph, eight Perez-Steele art postcards, and an engraved title plate that reads “Brooklyn Dodgers 1955 World Series Champions, Brooklyn 4 games, New York 3 games, MVP Johnny Podres”. All signatures are distinct, and many are bold. Though light wear is noted mainly across the bottom, the frame remains attractive and serviceable.
Featured signatures are: Jackie Robinson (HOF, d.1972), Bob Borkowski, Chuck Templeton, Ed Roebuck, Roger Craig, Roy Campanella (HOF, d.1993), “Pee Wee” Reese (HOF, X2), Johnny Podres (X2), Don Hoak (d.1969), Jake Pitler (coach, d.1968), Joe Becker (coach), Vin Scully (HOF Frick Award sportscaster), Carl Furillo (d.1989), Billy Loes, Gil Hodges (HOF, d.1972), Sandy Koufax (HOF), Russ Meyer, Walt Alston (HOF, manager, d.1984), Joe Black, Don Bessent, Bert Hamric (d.1984), Clem Labine, Sandy Amoros, Carl Erskine, Jim Hughes, “Dixie” Howell, Karl Spooner (d.1984), Jim Gilliam (d.1978), “Rube” Walker, Frank Kellert (d.1976), Walt Moryn, Billy Herman (HOF, coach), “Duke” Snider (HOF, Don Zimmer, Don Newcombe, George “Shotgun” Shuba, Tom Lasorda (HOF).
Founded in 1883 as the Brooklyn Grays, the Dodgers enjoyed their fair share of ups and downs, including the capture of a dozen NL pennants during their 1883-1957 Brooklyn tenure. The franchise would go on to even greater glory following the move to Los Angeles in 1958, where the Dodgers have won the World Series eight times. As accomplished by this Boys of Summer squad, the 1955 Fall Classic triumph will always be remembered as the high point of baseball in Brooklyn.
Full LOA from James Spence/JSA for all signatures. The Gilliam signature comes with a JSA COA. The Snider and Herman signatures have visible JSA stickers. The following signatures are reported as being encapsulated by PSA/DNA: Furillo, Hodges, Howell, Reese single-signed cut, Koufax, Amoros, Lasorda, and Pitler. Located at the top-right corner is the only multi-signed piece, with Campanella, Reese and Podres.
