Description

Greetings from a Hall of Famer come your way, with the offering of this 1957 "Wahoo Sam" Crawford signed handwritten letter. One of the leading hitters of the dead ball era, Crawford was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1957, and his induction came a little more than a month after he wrote this letter on June 11, 1957. Crawford's neat penmanship shows off distincly against the considerably toned page. The content begins with a kind reference to satisfying a fan's autograph request by returining a signed photograph. The Detroit Tigers legend also detailed the inclusion of a second photograph, which he thought the fan might like. In conclusion, Crawford mentions just returning from a Kansas City Athletics game, where twelve Hall of Famers were honored. Research shows the game took place on June 7, 1957. Those honored were Crawford, Ty Cobb, Paul Waner, Carl Hubbell, Charlie Gahringer, Jimmie Foxx, "Lefty" Grove, Ray Schalk, Joe Cronin, Tris Speaker, Mickey Cochrane, and Frank Baker. Crawford (d.1968) has signed boldly at bottom-right. Housed with the same matted window with the letter, are two 1969 Professional Baseball postage stamps. Also seen in this display, is a Crawford Perez-Steele art postcard.
