Description

Display appeal rises off the charts for this circa 1920 Exhibit Supply Co. Play Ball Amusement Machine. This coin-operated countertop game is a heavy metal production, with a captivating baseball theme. Seen behind the upper window, is a playing field studded with pins to direct a one cent coin into one of eight openings. Should your coin fall into one of the lower holes you made a hit and your coin was returned to you. The upper slots yielded an out and the loss of your penny. Drop your coin into the home run slot and a prize could have be granted. The cast metal lower section is decorated with relief figures of a pitcher and catcher, with Exhibit Supply Co. branding below. Atop this section resides a ball that releases coins into the interior reservoir, and the upper left side panel hosts the coin deposit slot. Both side panels feature a leaping fielder in front of the bleachers. While a key is included, it does not open the front panel, so the wood panel on the back would have to be removed to access the interior. Though moderate wear is evident, the charms of this vintage machine are abundant.
