Description

Baseball historians encounter some rare relics, with this selection of (3) 1870s baseball player photographs. Featured are a 4-1/8" x 7-1/4" cabinet card depicting a pair of players in plain uniforms, a 2-1/2" x 4" CDV of a single player wearing a bow tie, credited on the reverse to the H.M. Wolfe Photographic Studio of Delmont, PA., and a 2-3/8" x 3-3/8" tintype of a trio wearing Sharps uniforms. In historical context, the grand game of baseball was just beginning to see teams compete at the professional level, when these antique photographs were taken. Given their considerable age, it's remarkable how well the two cabinet cards have held up, with both being solid Vg+ examples. Though the tintype is Pr with surface abrasions, it remains reasonably attractive.
