Score a seldom offered comic book, when you top the bidding for this 6/41 Timely Comics Marvel Mystery Comics #20 issue. Originally offered with the title Marvel Comics for the #1 issue only, this first ever Timely comic book series added Mystery to the title with issue #2, and it ran under the header Marvel Mystery Comics from 1939-1949, when it became Marvel Tales. For Golden Age collectors, all issues from this title are important, and this #20 issue is no exception. Two of Timely's Big Three heroes, the Human Torch and the Sub-Mariner debuted in the first issue, and both are seen on the front cover of the comic offered here, in one of the many fantastic works provided the remarkable Alex Schomburg. Also worth noting, is the inclusion of a text origin story for the Angel in this issue. CGC has encapsulated this WWII era comic with a grade of 1.8, Brittle Pages. To date, CGC has graded only fifty-two examples of this issue in Universal Grade holders, supporting the belief that surviving copies are quite scarce. Label notes are "Bill Everett, Carl Burgos, Jack Kirby, Joe Simon and Paul Gustavson stories and art, Alex Schomburg cover. Origin of the Angel (in text).".
