Hall of Fame NFL executive conducted one of his duties as owner of the Philadelphia Eagles, with this typed letter signed. Addressed to offensive lineman Forrest McPherson, this May 5, 1936 correspondence is a two-page cover letter for a contract sent to McPherson, who played for the Eagles from 1935-1937. In an interesting historic note, Bell, who founded the Eagles, began this letter with the statement "I bought controlling interest in the Philadelphia Eagles and am going to coach the team myself".
Appearing on stately Philadelphia National League Football letterhead with a team logo bald eagle at top-left, this vintage letter remains fairly crisp, with moderate wear and period compacting folds. The typed content is completely discernible, and Bell concluded this letter with a sharp signature on the second page. Bell (d.1959) went on to serve as the second NFL commissioner, and he was posthumously inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame with the inaugural 1963 Class.
Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA.
