Description

Even though he stood 6’3”, legendary heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali is still dwarfed by towering basketball great Wilt Chamberlain in this dual-signed photograph. Several times during the period 1965-1971, the famous subjects kicked around the idea of facing each other in the boxing ring. This scene with Ali deflecting a Chamberlain jab took place in 1967, during a promotional appearance on ABC’s Wide World of Sports program. Each time a meeting in the ring was considered, Chamberlain was talked out of it, and though the fight never happened, the showmanship of these legends made for great theater. This 16” x 20” photograph is crisp and clean, and the mod style TV studio setting is pure 1960s. The renowned belligerents have signed on the background space between them for maximum contrast of their prized signatures, which are both highly potent examples.
